Women in Trades Program Opens Opportunities (& Auto Repair Shop) for Grad

At 16, the same day she got her driver’s license, Katie Stockford’s dad taught her how to change a tire and check her oil. “My dad said if you’re going to drive you’d better know how to change a tire and check your oil,” says Stockford. A few years later while living in Nelson Katie enrolled in Selkirk College’s Trades Discover Program for Women to learn a trade that paid a decent wage.

Fast forward and Katie is back in living in Vancouver where she is a mechanic and co-owner with Brad Minchin at Your Neighbourhood Automotive Repair Shop located at 2596 Pandora Street. Read more here or watch a video here.
